I've never seen the stage production, so I have nothing to compare this film to. despite this I am impressed by the quality of this film. The acting and music are superb. The overall style of the movie works well. They got the right actors for each roll. What is doubly amazing is that there was no voice dubbing. The actors all sang their own respective rolls. I've listened to stage production versions of the music and I still find the music form the film to be the best.
The film deserves it's PG-13 rating for violence and some female statue nudity that is a part of the decor of the opera house. This is a must see, with surround sound if available.
