Definitely on the top end of PG-13. This movie has some intense violent scenes of the alien (monster) crushing military folks. Also a lot of profanity from the youngsters who star the movie. I would not classify this as a family flick and although compared to E.T., it is far from the cutesy 80's classic, because this extra terrestrial is VERY angry. I also found there to be no redeeming value. No real values are taught in the movie and I left the theater a little disappointed.

Loved the story premise and enjoyed all the young actors but had a little of the Independence Day affects. Didn't see the need for all the profanity, really isn't anyone capable of writing a script without it. It's an insult to the intelligence of mankind. The more we're educated the more perverse we become.

I enjoyed the film very much, but the language was terrible. Lots of swearing. Whether it's worth your time will depend greatly on your tolerance for bad language. It is a great throwback to the Spielberg films of the early 80s. It has the friendship of the Goonies, the magic of ET and the monster-movie vibe of Jaws. The finale is wonderful.

I liked this movie. But I think the trailer and marketing is deceptive. This is not a kid friendly movie or anything like "ET" or "The Goonies". The monster is not friendly and cute but is more vicious and on par with something from Aliens. I took my 12 year old to see this and that was a mistake. It is way too violent for her or pre-high school kids.

Add Goonies and E.T. together and you get Super 8. Great story lines and characters. However, the profanity is really over the top - should be rated R because of language.

Several friends recommended I see this movie, but I can't say I was thrilled with it. It was more violent and intense than I expected, and a couple of the kids had some potty mouths. I thought it was OK, but certainly not worth buying the DVD. Careful letting your kids see it, the alien might give them bad dreams.

Super 8 is J.J. Abrams' homage to everything Spielberg. It's got the suspense of a Jaws or Jurassic Park, the teenage characters reminiscent of E.T. or the Goonies, and a Close Encounters of the Third Kind vibe too. It was a very enjoyable movie, though the language is a bit strong and the suspense may be too much for younger viewers. If memory serves, there are also some disturbing images, but nothing too terrifying. I highly recommend Super 8, especially if you want a trip down memory lane without pulling out your old Spielberg movies on VHS or DVD.

This was a fun intense movie that reminds me of the Goonies. There is a lot of swearing throughout that is primary from kids.

Stupid movie. I would certainly expect better out of Steven Spielberg teaming up with J.J. Abrams so I did have rather high expectations for this movie. But at the same time the movie was just dumb. Lots of special effects and entertaining in parts but horrible ending and the plot stunk. This movies ends so pathetic you wish you did not waste your time. This movie is more to entertain the kiddies but probably not one to take the kiddies to. This is one of the most overhyped movies of the summer and I dont know why. Still not as bad as Cloverfield which is the worst sci-fi i have ever seen in my life.

Good movie with humor and heart

Decent story line, fine acting, but the profanity was too much and made three adults uncomfortable. The monster is hideous, the violence intense.

One of the better Spielberg movies in years trying to get back to his roots and what made he so good early on in his career. The kids all do a great job in this film.

Fun movie. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Don't be decieved though as it is NOT a kids movie. There is plenty of swearing (including one use the R rated curse word) and blood/minimal gore. I wouldn't call it scary, but there are plenty of parts that make you jump out of your seat. I'd easily give it an 8 or 9 out of 10.

This movie was awesome. I went to see it, knowing NOTHING about it, and loved all the surprises. 3 1/2 stars.

This movie was awesome! It was very intriguing and had excellent acting. usually when the main characters are kids it worries me but they all did a fabulous job. This movie is an instant classic that will be remembered for years. Beware I screamed like a little girl at a couple of parts.

Very well done movie. Unlike Stevens other ET movie based in the same time period this is far more intense.

This movie strives to combine the suspense of JAWS, and drama of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND. Obviously, this means you hide the alien as long as possible, but when you finally do reveal the alien, it has to have purpose and real connection. The movie essentially borrows the ex deus machina resolution of the IRON GIANT. It was disappointment on many levels.

Heave on both profanity and violence, Super 8 is still a worthwhile romp done 1980's sci-fi ala Spielberg style.

Great balance or story, action, pacing, comic relief and other vital elements a film needs to hold the audiences attention for nearly two hours. While not only paying homage to great films such as The Goonies and E.T., the nostalgia does not overshadow the deeper meanings viewers can find once the plot and sub plots resolve under the masterful direction of J.J. Abrams.

I enjoyed the spin on an alien movie set in the 70's. JJ Abrams is creative and a rising talented story teller. Child actors are great and are able to carry the story. The language used was a bit much at times mainly due to children using swear words but contrary to other comments, Goonies and ET did have kids using adult language. Other movies out there have far more language issues. I was pleasantly surprised and would recommend the movie.

It's rare to find child actors that are actually good, but this one has several that are great. They seem like real kids. The funny thing about this movie is, it seems like the whole "alien" plot is just an aside, that the real movie is about these kids and growing up.

Storyline okay and fun but they use the F word for no apparent reason and one of the kids can't talk without constant profanity from start to finish, (mostly the Lord's name in vain in all forms). Very disappointed.

Compelling, terrific action; classic J.J. Abrams. But language is very abrasive.

Fun movie to go see.

Too much taking of God's name in vain. Stupid, silly plot.

I wasn't impressed with this movie. I'm not bummed that I spent money and time on it, but I wouldn't care to see it again.
Some people loved it but I thought it had too much unnecessary swearing and took too long to get exciting.
It has a good amount of violence and a lot of swearing as previously noted. I would not recommend this for anyone under the age of 15.June 8th, 2012 Details -
Made me feel like a kid again. Worth it.

I gave it a thumbs down just because I thought it was SO over rated. Kinda like Warhorse was but this movie is better than that movie was

Was boring at times, and you did not see the alien until the end.

As is the case with most movies of this genre, the build up is better than the monster that is revealed. But it is entertaining without the horror gore so common in current movies.
