The Help
In 1960s Mississippi, Southern society girl Skeeter (Emma Stone) returns from college with dreams of being a writer. She turns her small town on its ear by choosing to interview the black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent white families. Only Aibileen (Viola Davis), the housekeeper of Skeeter's best friend, will talk at first. But as the pair continue the collaboration, more women decide to come forward, and as it turns out, they have quite a lot to say.

Heartfelt and sometimes heart wrenching. It sent me giggling and made me cry. Well acted. I wouldn't suggest it for children, not because of terrible content, but because of adult themes including racism (a use of the "N-word"), marital and family problems and death. The overall message is one of hope and triumph and the movie is a treat for more mature audiences.

My relatives lived in Mississippi during this period of time, and my mom had a maid like the characters in this book. Taught my mama how make her bed. But my family took care of their help, took them on trips, and sent them to college. This book is a must read and the move holds true to the book. I'd give this five stars. And I'm even a guy who prefers CIA thrillers.

Loved this film. Really entertaining and thought-provoking. It really makes you think about how all people should be treated with equal respect. I'd like to own it and watch it a few more times.

Fantastic movie, great message, makes you want to get up and give a round of applause. I love Minny!! I hope she gets an Oscar for her role. Emma Stone did great too in a more real, mature character. Laughed, made me think and almost cry. Awesome film!

i was going to see this movie until i heard about the language used. yes, i do understand that people use such language and yes i have been told the story is good. but i try hard to remember a statement by pres. hinckley...'can you watch with your bishop, prophet, savior in the same room and feel comfortable'. i personally am tired of foul language to describe a situation. disney can describe situations without cursing

Honor is given for the importance of the women who have helped in raising our families. An era unknown to youth today.

I loved seeing this movie. It provoked deep thought in me while making me both laugh and cry. I thought the movie did a wonderful job of portraying the time period. I enjoyed how it showed the good and the bad. It is just wonderful!

This film is really wonderful. It's fascinating, funny, outrageous, infuriating, and heart-breaking. The end of the film was hugely emotional. This is an important story and immensely watchable. It should be seen by everyone.
It's got a very grown up story, and several uses of the s-word due to one particular (funny) plot point.May 28th, 2012 Details -
The movie, based on a novel, relates stories of black female domestic helpers in Mississippi in the early 1960s. The story is entertaining and compelling and gives you a good sense of standing in someone else's shoes.

A family friendly introduction to the civil rights movement that lightens up its weighty subject matter with much-appreciated humor. As other reviews have mentioned, there are a few scenes that parents might consider too intense for young children, but overall "The Help" is a very mild PG-13.

Educational, informative, , enlightening, humbling, and sorrowful.

Well, I would have rated it PG were it not for the mention of a few swear words, and the mild violence and themes a child would not be able to appreciate unless they were rather mature for their age. However, we loved it and would see it again...

I absolutely loved it - even more the second time! It made me think about how I treat others - I should be more compassionate and less judging. The story was told in a very realistic way without being too graphic. The people in it seem very real. I recommend it to everyone over about 12; I don't think children would understand it and would probably get bored.

The mild profanity and the thematic material w/ KKK keep this movie in the PG-13 category. Read the book you will laugh and cry even more.

I didn't think there was too much in the movie that suggested PG-13, and I think everyone should view the movie, including those under 13.

Loved the book, loved the movie. One minor character swears a lot, otherwise, not much objectionable content.

Good quality film about 1960's inequality with a twist of ironic humor. A bit more swearing and racial epitaths than I would have liked, but probably less than reality. A good watch for adults.

A very good story. A scene that depicts a miscarriage of a baby may require a conversation with children on the topic. The themes may be too intense for children under 12.

This might possibly be the most over rated movie of 2011. Don’t waste your time unless you are on some soul searching mission to feel good about yourself without actually having to do something.

Love this movie, it did the book justice. But with the very difficult themes of racism, I think it's best viewed by more mature teens. It takes a deep understanding of race, the South, Jim Crow, women's rights, etc.. to truly grasp the movie appropriately.

This movie is great. I read the book and the book is good. Viola Davis shines on the screen and with almost an all female cast it's a wonderful movie :D

The Help. Based on a book, but I have not read it. I thought this movie was great. Very funny at times. Geared towards adults this film shows how the life of "help" was back not to long ago. I would recommend this show to any of my friends.

The help was such a strong movie. It really helped to let us know what it was like for someone that was African -American at that time. While they were no longer slaves, they weren't exactly free! There is use of racism and hatred but given the era it isn't surprising. It shows what happens when you use your voice. A wonderful tale of courage and strength. I did cry at a few parts when the help was being treated poorly.

Love that I received the book and the film as gifts. I think the casting was perfect. I couldn't imagine anyone else plays the parts that each person played. It was a great movie, one that I enjoy re watching.
