In 1960s Mississippi, Southern society girl Skeeter (Emma Stone) returns from college with dreams of being a writer. My relatives lived in Mississippi during this period of time, and my mom had a maid like the characters in this book. Taught my mama how make her bed. But my family took care of their help, took them on trips, and sent them to college. This book is a must read and the move holds true to the book. I'd give this five stars. And I'm even a guy who prefers CIA thrillers.

Heartfelt and sometimes heart wrenching. It sent me giggling and made me cry. Well acted. I wouldn't suggest it for children, not because of terrible content, but because of adult themes including racism (a use of the "N-word"), marital and family problems and death. The overall message is one of hope and triumph and the movie is a treat for more mature audiences.

Loved this film. Really entertaining and thought-provoking. It really makes you think about how all people should be treated with equal respect. I'd like to own it and watch it a few more times.

From the beginning, "The Help" has a lightweight feeling like "Fried Green Tomatoes", "Steel Magnolias", and others before it. It quickly changes gears and becomes one of the most fiercely acted & inspiring movies of 2011. Viola Davis (Oscar-nominated for "Doubt" in 2009) is mesmerizing. She embodies the main character giving her equal parts of humor, humility, and moments of pure sorrow not paralleled to any actress this day and age. The story is narrated by Davis with poignancy and extreme talent. As her sidekick, newcomer Octavia Spencer is phenomenal, sometimes stealing the show from the wonderful cast around her. If Davis & Stone don't both receive Oscar-nominations for this, I will be surprised. The rest of the cast including Emma Stone, Sissy Spacek, and another shining newcomer Jessica Chastain are just as brilliant. As for the story, I learned a lot, laughed a lot, and ultimately felt very much sorrow at the end. At the same time, I wanted to stand up, applaud, and cheer. I don't want to give the story away, but it's extremely worthwhile and will stick with me for years to come. The director, Tate Taylor, is a rookie, and sometimes the unfinished stitches of the film show through. But overall it's a treat. An extreme pleasure, not to be missed!

Unfortunately, this film is peppered with profanity. Other than that, it's a wonderful story of the lives of maids and debutantes who hire them. It's eye-opening knowing that as recently as 1960 there were such ridiculous notions that divided our society.

ased on a popular novel, The Help is an excellent, heart-felt story that shows the power of the human spirit. Great performances by Davis and co-star Octavia Spencer, and a short but moving appearance by Cicely Tyson, bolster a solid supporting cast... See Full Review

WOW what a fantastic and powerful movie, I am not ashamed to admit it drew a tear or two in a few places. I came out of this movie very thankful for the changes we have made as a society to get away from negativity as much as we have.

The help was such a strong movie. It really helped to let us know what it was like for someone that was African -American at that time. While they were no longer slaves, they weren't exactly free! There is use of racism and hatred but given the era it isn't surprising. It shows what happens when you use your voice. A wonderful tale of courage and strength. I did cry at a few parts when the help was being treated poorly.

Love this movie, it did the book justice. But with the very difficult themes of racism, I think it's best viewed by more mature teens. It takes a deep understanding of race, the South, Jim Crow, women's rights, etc.. to truly grasp the movie appropriately.

A family friendly introduction to the civil rights movement that lightens up its weighty subject matter with much-appreciated humor. As other reviews have mentioned, there are a few scenes that parents might consider too intense for young children, but overall "The Help" is a very mild PG-13.

A very good story. A scene that depicts a miscarriage of a baby may require a conversation with children on the topic. The themes may be too intense for children under 12.

This film is really wonderful. It's fascinating, funny, outrageous, infuriating, and heart-breaking. The end of the film was hugely emotional. This is an important story and immensely watchable. It should be seen by everyone. It's got a very grown up story, and several uses of the s-word due to one particular (funny) plot point.

I absolutely loved it - even more the second time! It made me think about how I treat others - I should be more compassionate and less judging. The story was told in a very realistic way without being too graphic. The people in it seem very real. I recommend it to everyone over about 12; I don't think children would understand it and would probably get bored.
