Hotel Transylvania
When monsters want to get away from it all, they go to Count Dracula's (Adam Sandler) Hotel Transylvania, a lavish resort where they can be themselves without humans around to bother them. On one special weekend, Dracula invites creatures like the Invisible Man, the Mummy and others to celebrate the 118th birthday of his daughter, Mavis (Selena Gomez). However, an unforeseen complication unfolds when an ordinary human unwittingly crashes the party and falls in love with Mavis.

Though riddled with potentially compelling themes, “Hotel Transylvania” chooses to play it as safe as its substitute-blood sucking, walled up version of Dracula. That’s not necessarily a bad thing if you’re just looking for a 90 minute break from Halloween shopping, but just remember to go in with your expectations low and you won’t walk out disappointed.
Points for parents
Racism: One of the main themes mentioned throughout the film is not judging others because appearance. One scene that may be left to parents to explain involves Dracula asking Jonathan, the human character, about the safety of the Dracula family if they choose to come out into the world. Jonathan doesn’t really address the question, but gives up the argument because he knows the world is still a dangerous place for people who are different.
Crude humor: This film throws in a lot of unnecessary body jokes, including farts, butts, werewolves peeing on carpets and the supernatural sponge characters who enjoy cleaning up after them.
Scary Images: This really isn’t a dark film, though the title might suggest as much. However, there are two or three scenes where the monsters either unexpectedly roar at the scene, or they become completely different characters because they feel threatened. Overall, the scare scenes are very mild, but they are there.
Overall, “Hotel Transylvania” plays it safe in every department except crude humor, and even there, it could have been worse. The movie itself felt really restrained, so even when heavy topics come up, they move away from them as quickly as they brought them up. This is probably a safe film for any child 6 and up. -
Fun movie for the whole family. Very creative to put characters together in a hotel. A story about a father letting go and learning to "chill" a little bit more. Nice story line, good entertaining flow and cool effects. I liked the music, tons of celebrity voices together. It didn't surprise me that it had a couple of crude moments, since we have Adam Sandler in the mix. But overall it was pretty good fun. Overall a good movie to see with the fam.

I was surprised by how good the humor was in this film. With big-name monsters you expect all the typical cliches associated with them. Many of these are present, but they approached them in a fresh original way. Ultimately this show is about falling in love and the developing relationship of a daughter and father. All the other monsters and setting help enrich and create the context of the story. Except for a little potty humor I thought this was a pretty good film. In a lot of ways the humor is a bit like the Adams family film series, where the family have their own set of rules and eccentricities that play off the rest of the worlds ideas of normalcy. I think most people and children over the age of 6 will enjoy this. Hotel Transylvania's rating is spot-on with a PG rating for looney tunes style comedy violence and potty humor.

Funny moments will have both kids and adults laughing. One crude humor moment with Frankenstein and the Mummy. Suspend you belief for the last part of the film. Not hard to do with this story.

About the worst thing in this show is a fart joke. It's extremely entertaining an overall fun movie.

This movie was ok. Not one of the better ones I've seen. The story line was ok. The Characters were funny and engaging and there were some good memorable lines. There were some parts that were a little creepy even for me. Some parts were also a little crude. All in all a creative, Halloween movie that can be enjoyed by a family but I would recommend renting it rather than going to see it in the theater.

Great for my kids and for me. Was entertained through out. As a father of 5 girls I enjoyed the story line of a father daughter relationship.

Fun movie. I liked seeing all of the different monsters together hanging out. There is some crude humor, however overall it has a good message.

I loved this movie! I was laughing from beginning to end. The characters are fun to watch and were cute in a creepy-halloweeny way. Although this movie is pretty hilarious, it did have quite a lot of gross humor and some scary parts that even freaked me out. Overall, definitely worth seeing!

This movie was pretty entertaining for my husband and I. We thought it was funny and clever. It has a fun storyline and is a unique movie. Although we enjoyed it, there were unnecessary jokes/crude humor that I wouldn't want my young children picking up.

fun. I know there are monsters but these poor monsters are more silly than scary.

Hotel Transylvania is a cute, and entertaining movie for any age. I had seen a few previews and I was still surprised while watching the it. This is a "halloween themed" movie that you can feel safe about your children watching any time of the year, without scaring them. It has everything for a great movie - comedy, romance, drama and creativity throughout the movie.
