Once a collegiate wrestler, Scott Voss (Kevin James) is now a 42-year-old, apathetic biology teacher in a failing high school. When cutbacks threaten the school's music program and its teacher (Henry Winkler), Scott springs into action. He dusts off his long-unused wrestling skills and earns money for the program by moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter. Though the school nurse (Salma Hayek) thinks he's crazy, Scott gains something he never expected, and the school rallies behind him.

This is essentially a Rocky movie with a UFC/highschool slant to it. But I kind of knew this going to see the film, so I wasn't disappointed. It is a great feel-good movie with a message of enduring/overcoming despite the seemingly insurmountable obstacles. The PG rating is well deserved for UFC style (mostly bloodless) violence, Men essentially wearing nothing but undies in the ring, vomiting, and some sexual innuendo (Very mild, would go right over most kids heads) that in the real world would cost the main character his job because of how persistent he is. I guess they had an understanding or something. I just wasn't feeling the chemistry between the main, and female lead characters. Probably a scripting/directing issue, because I have seen Kevin James play romantic/humorous roles in other films that are superb. Not so much in this film. My final thought on this film is that the musical score wasn't that great. There are a few orchestral moments that are great (Remember he is trying to save the music program at the high school), then he is training or fighting and they play either heavy metal, rap and at one point Neal Diamond. The latter used for comical, then moral uplifting toward the end. Bottom line is that I felt the mix of hard and then uplifting music to be a bit odd and grating at times.
Despite these flaws I thought this was worth seeing at least once, especially if you're into feel-good sports films.

Here Comes the Boom is a funny movie with a good message about helping others. The characters are all very likable, and they seem to be having a fun time. The fighting in the movie is depicted as tough, but the light feel of the movie is maintained throughout it. This is one of the best family movies for families with teenagers that I have seen.

Kevin James plays a teacher who has lost his way and finds it again when he agrees to raise money for the music program in his school. Funny film with some touching moments One scene of vomiting is as crude as this film gets.

This is quirky and fun while completely predictable. They did a great job at taming the violence down and producing a feel good message throughout the movie.

There are a lot of funny moments that merit laughs because of awkwardness and placing yourself in that situation. Don't expect the mature or more graphic MMA or UFC fighting like in the movie Warrior.

    I'd recommend this for families.

This movie reminded me of School of Rock with Jack Black, with a different twist. An inspiring message about courage to change, get out of your comfort zone, finding your passion and fighting for it. Kevin James does a good job although I really don't think he could have pulled all those fights off :) I liked how he inspired his students and making a good come back after having given up on his own passion. Quite violent for kids younger than 10. Some crudeness, yelling are also involved.

I expected a good laugh at this movie but boy was I surprised! I have not laughed this hard at a movie in years. And the biggest surprise of the movie was Bas Rutten, one of the best fighters around. I knew he was funny but he nearly stole the show from Kevin James. This one was good enough that I might go see it again. Plus it delivers a message that I won't spoil for you. Just go see it and don't blame me if your sides ache after it's over.

Kevin James makes me laugh. That was the draw to the movie, and really what made it work. The premise has been used many times- serial slacker comes up against a roadblock and decides to fight back. Enlists other slackers and misfits in the battle. Fights amazing odds and pulls it off. But, the movie works if you go with one goal in mind- to be entertained.

The PG rating is solid- at worst it's potty humor, but there's nothing I wouldn't let my children see, or even younger children.

See it, don't expect an Oscar winner, and just have fun.

What a fun movie, one of the things that comedian Kevin James can do is great physical comedy. This is a perfect example of this. The story is fun and has lots of great ufc fighting scenes that will make you smile. No foul language and light fighting violence. Highly recomend for a family fun night

"Now if you excuse me, I have to roll around with a sweaty guy from Holland." Here Comes the Boom is a fun, strangely motivating story about a teacher (Kevin James) that takes up MMA to raise money to preserve his school's music program. Most kids would find it humorous but may also be prone to try some of the UFC moves that they see in the movie. Some violence (all MMA is violent), and the occasional curse word, but still safe in my opinion for 8 and above.

This movie was so funny. My husband and I are really into MMA, so it was fun to see this twist on it. Although the plot line was very predicable, it ended up being a lot funnier than we expected.

Although it was somewhat predictable, my family got into this movie. Kevin James does a good job and is very likable as the teacher with a cause. It was entertaining and the plot reminded me a lot of Nacho Libre. I recommend it for a family audience.

I loved this movie and would highly recommend it. It was cheesy and predictable, yes, but a heartwarming story at the same time. This movie made me want to go out and fight for something that I love.

Obviously there were a lot of fighting scenes, so parents should be aware of that. However, I didn't think any of them were over the top.

Kevin James is an equivalent to comedy. Salma Hayek gets better as the years go by. It's funny, entertaining, and a bit cheesy but bearable. It's worth your time once but not twice in my opinion. Strongest material: good-old-clean-fun beatings.

This was a fun movie with a great message. I think the motivation to fight is often from the love of hurting people and being violent. Scott Voss source of inspiration came from the students at a High School he taught at and one of his colleagues who was about to lose a job. This movie shows that good will always triumph over evil.

I feel like this movie was Kevin James' way of bringing the spotlight back as the funny, yet moral guy, with an added toughness that Mr. Boom had to have. I laughed, I cried and I did everything in between in this movie. I will admit, with James' most ultimate movies, I went in with really low expectations, but I came out loving him again. It's a good movie for kids too.

I ended up liking it more than I thought I would. My kids, ages 12 & 14, really liked it a lot too. It's a good story of a waylaid teacher who gets inspired to turn himself, and his school around, to help a fellow teacher. It's a great underdog story. It's a fun for the whole family movie.
