This is one of the best book adaptations I've ever seen. It benefits from direction coming from the book's author (I forgot his name) and from some additional background information that is not in the book. Engaging and at times surreal, it makes some thoughtful statements about belief and spirituality. Though I was not in full agreement with all of the ideas the story pushes forward, they were respectful and honest. This is one of the better movies I watched in 2012.

Jarring descent into the depths of an individual's imagination. Some will struggle with the meaning of the story when it's presented as a possible fable rather than pure truth. Possible lesson: You can't trust in anyone? Some disturbing content, especially for children who like animals and don't necessarily need to be traumatized by watching them get mauled.

A glorified movie about cannibalism, made acceptable to all with pretty scenery and loveable animals. The horrible thing the movie does, is it leads you along for the whole movie thinking you are watching a movie about a young boy who survives hardship, then at they end they let you know its about cannibalism. Hollywood calls it one of 2012 "best". Should we accept a movie about cannibalism as sweet and morally ok? I would not let any child of any age go see this movie. We do not need Hollywood to put a happy face on subjects that are morally wrong? The deep insights that are supposed to be in this movie, are not there, and the message is disturbing. I'm sure the scenery was beautiful and the birds were chirping when the Donner party was dining.

Film of the year for me. Incredible acting. Beautiful story.

Beautiful story. Enjoyed learning and seeing life portrayed in India during the 1950-1960s. Great acting and cinematography. At times the life and death emotion was strong and the violence related to the tiger. However, nothing I wouldn't feel comfortable showing to my 9 year old daughter.

Very interesting plot, amazing nature, requires your full attention and concentration during entire film. Like it very much!

'Life of Pi' is stunning! I have never seen CGI that looks so realistic, the animals and the scenery are fantastic. But aside from the visual appeal, I really enjoyed the story itself. I always heard that 'Life of Pi' is a great book, and now I have all the more reason to read it. It is an inspiring story of a boy , Pi, who overcomes tremendous obstacles through faith and hope. This is one of the best movies I have seen in some time, and I highly recommend it.

Astounding visually, but this movie will have you thinking long after and looking for someone to discuss themes and meanings with. So much depth and definitely worth your time.

Fun movie with an incredibly good story. After watching it through it will make you think hard about the meaning of all that happened. You might have to watch it twice with the information you are given at the end of the movie. I love ocean storm movies so I was a fan. The tiger makes it a super interesting movie with the boy trying to survive with living with the tiger (because he can't bring himself to kill him).

Very family-friendly movie with a great, God-centered message. It has a Wizard of Oz feel to it in some ways. My 5 year old was a bit scared of the Tiger and the thunderstorms, but beyond that, it was an excellent movie, with a great storyline and ending! Go watch it with your family (but beware your younger kids might get just a little scared if that happens easily for them).

Film definitely worth your time

"Life of Pi" is a miraculous achievement of storytelling and a landmark of visual mastery...The movie quietly combines various religious traditions to enfold its story in the wonder of life...I have decided it is one of the best films of the year... Read full review here

"Life of Pi" is probably the prettiest movies since "Avatar." Even after watching it, audiences might be surprised to learn just how much of it is actually computer animated, including a lot of the shots of one of its main stars, Richard Parker.
But Ang Lee's most recent Oscar winner is worth seeing for more than just its impressive visuals. "Life of Pi" is a fantastic piece of filmmaking with a story that deals overtly with the role of religion in a way that is almost guaranteed to spark debates as the credits roll. In this case, though, that's not a bad thing.
With as much adventure and humor as there is drama, "Life of Pi" could also be a good bet for some younger audiences.February 26th, 2013 Details -
I like it. Seemed all right. Pretty sweet story. Nice twist at the end.

Great film! The story is entertaining and is believable, but at the same time you wonder if it could really happen (even though it didn't). It deals a lot spirituality and religion. I would recommend it for kids 10 or older because it is a more serious movie.

One of the most remarkable films I have seen in years. I recommend that parents of young children see it first before letting their children watch it.

I did not enjoy this movie. I found it to be extremely boring and couldn't believe I actually watched the whole thing. In fact, I think the only reason I did was because it was a choice between this movie and homework. I should have picked the homework.
The one good thing I have to say about this is that the CGI was truly incredible.April 23rd, 2013 Details -
Lee takes on a not-so-crouching tiger to bring audiences a wondrously enthralling adventure fable ... Lee's exquisite adaptation of Yann Martel's 2001 best seller is a visual feast that leaves an indelible impression ... Life of Pi is a spectacular high-seas epic that employs technology brilliantly and underscores the power of a vividly told story... Read full review here

What’s striking about the film, in addition to the effects, is the calm with which Lee tells the story. He’s patient, sure of himself at every turn, and Sharma is the perfect choice for that sensibility... Read full review here

Ang Lee’s Life Of Pi turns Yann Martel’s Booker Prize-winning novel about a teenage boy lost at sea with a tiger into a 3D spectacle designed to keep us from thinking about how preposterous the whole thing is... But while the visuals are magnificent, they’re still just eye candy... It's Irrfan Khan who gives the movie its weight, delivering a closing monologue with such complex sorrow that it makes all the digital frippery feel kind of pointless... Read full review here

LOVED this movie. I had thought it was mostly going to be about shipwreck survival, but there is a lot of pleasant drama for half of the movie. It is creative and unique, a good portrayal of the world at large, and the cinematography was fantastic. I rated o.k. for ages 10+ years: the tiger pulls a goat through his cage bars; later a hyena kills a couple of animals and is then killed by the tiger, as all are aboard the same lifeboat; and the shipwreck is pretty intense in which it is not shown, but apparent that all of Pi's family has died.
LeslieSumner I am going to rebut your review. In this two hour long movie, about one minute mentions cannibalism. Not only is it hardly mentioned, but didn't even occur (according to my interpretation of the story). Pi lies that cannibalism happened because his story was not believed. Perhaps you should argue about the immorality of Pi's lying in order to appease insurance adjusters.January 14th, 2013 Details -
This is a good show. It has its slow points and kinda reminds me of Castaway. There are parts where the show is thrilling and exciting and keeps you on the edge of your seat.... but like castaway there are times where you are trying to keep your eyes open and not fall asleep. The video in this movie is great and has some awesome shots. I wouldnt say this is the "movie of the year" but I can see why some would say that. This is a one time watch movie. I have seen it, im good now. I probably wont add this to my collection but I recommend it.

This was visually stunning, and the young actor did such an amazing job, but had a horrible ending. It leads you to believe that we can survive anything with a little ingenuity. It was too long & I hated the direction it took at the end and thats all I could think about in the end...Definitely won't read the book.
