ages 15+ | 80% Say It's Worth Your Time

One morning in an ordinary town, five people are shot dead in a seemingly random attack. All evidence points to a single suspect: an ex-military sniper who is quickly brought into custody. The man's interrogation yields one statement: Get Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise). Reacher, an enigmatic ex-Army investigator, believes the authorities have the right man but agrees to help the sniper's defense attorney (Rosamund Pike). However, the more Reacher delves into the case, the less clear-cut it appears.

A poor attempt at a genre remake. Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson are rolling over in their graves. And Clint Eastwood's now envisioning Tom Cruise sitting in the chair...

I'm kind of torn on this one. Overall, I didn't love the movie. I think Tom Cruise was miscast -- and I'm not just talking the height discrepancy with the character from the book. Reacher came off as smug and pretty unlikable. That said, I think the movie had some really interesting elements in it. Many of the scenes were pretty clever, and the ending alone might be worth a watch for action aficionados. Jai Courtney and Werner Herzog also made for a good pair of baddies. Basically, though, I can't give this one a full recommendation. Go see writer-director Christopher McQuarrie's "The Way of the Gun" first. It has a lot of the same strengths -- clever dialogue, a novel approach to action sequences -- but overall it's just a much better movie.

I really liked the book and was disappointed when they cast Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. A very violent movie. My husband loved it, though.

The opening scenes in this movie are disturbing. I seriously felt sick to my stomach at seeing innocent people murdered in the way they were here. Although the filmakers were tactful about what they showed, the things they alluded to were horrific in regards to violence and murder. There are too many murders and beatings that are either graphic or allude to something disturbing without completely showing it.

The violence was quite mature for a PG-13 flick and too much for me to enjoy the film.

I thought this was a good movie. It is one of those movies that has you trying to figure out the puzzle while Jack Reacher is. Its got plenty of action, some really funny one liners and good story. It does have some violence and profanity but it is over all a good movie. If my mom will watch it and likes it, then its definitely not too bad. I personally really like this movie and I will be adding it to my collection. I put ages 14+ due to violence and language.

I thought the opening scene was very violent. I did like the movie, but the scene was too graphic and referenced often due to plot.

This ended up being a pretty fun movie! It was very entertaining and quite humorous. I have started not liking Tom Cruise in the past few years but movies like this will keep me interested a little longer. If you want to be entertained for 90 minutes this is a good choice. If you have been disappointed with movies that do not follow the book loyally then stop watching movies based on books you have read! 98% of all reviews that compare the book to the movie are negative, I am shocked that people in the 21st century still think that the motion picture format can capture the imagination and feeling of written literature...

Those who can handle the opening shooting scene will likely find the movie worth their time. Halfway through, I was thinking of attaching the label "great" to this action thriller. By the end, though, it seemed merely "good."

Jack Reacher is a surprisingly effective mystery/thriller, and it’s a pleasure to watch Cruise milk the role for all its macho charm. Stylish, intelligent, with a sense of humor. Oh, sure, it stretches credibility. That’s half the fun... See Full Review

Not sure why but it was strange to have tom cruise play this part and it sort of ruined the movie for me. I think this had great potential but casting blew it.

I thought this was going to be another mindless action flick but it turned out to be a pretty good murder mystery. Kind of violent in places. Liked it more than I thought I would.

Having not read any of the Lee Childs books I had no idea what to expect getting into. I enjoyed it very much. I have always loved watching characters that have nothing to lose. Tom Cruise doesn’t fit the description of the character in the books but does an excellent job with the attitude and determination of the character. Highly recommend!

Good, and keeps you on your toes. A bit of a let down compared to the books, Tom Cruise is not Jack Reacher, but he still did a great job.

Great guy movie! Haha lots of dry humor and action. I actually really enjoyed the storyline as well. Don't worry about it being realistic. Another James Bond Jason Bourne kind of action movie.

I went to this movie not expecting much because of the poor review. Thanks negative critics because I was able to be surprised with a great movie. The only thing I can think of that would merit the negativity is how realistic the sniping was depicted. Maybe the timing was a little too insensitive.

Some of the violence is a bit heavy at times, but the show was overall a good detective story that was very engaging. The movie has some sexual references but the material beyond that is pretty minimal. There is occasional cursing and 1 f bomb, but I did not feel it was explicit. Worthwhile but I feel it would not be fitting for younger teens.
