My wife is an awesome hair stylist and so she usually works on Saturdays. That means me and the boys usually have Saturdays to have fun (barring a ward movie or service project). This Saturday we went to see Epic! I was a bit nervous after my experience with Wreck-It Ralph, but it was a real great time!

In Epic a teenager named Mary Katherine (Amanda Seyfriend) finds herself transported to a deep forest setting where a battle between the forces of good and the forces of evil is taking place. She bands together with a rag-tag group characters in order to save their world, and ours.

I was a bit hesitant at first since I wasn't a big fan of Ice Age, and Blue Sky doesn't have a lot of experience with animating humans. I was pleasantly surprised. The world Blue Sky has created is intricately detailed and immensely beautiful because of it. The animations of Mary Katherine are fluid and her idiosyncratic movements capture the essence of an unsure teenager in a new world perfectly.

Cartoon violence and a few creepy scenes that might give your kids the heeby jeebies. Otherwise, Epic is a safe, entertaining show. It is not on the caliber of storytelling as any of the Disney/Pixar titles, and doesn't even quite measure up to many of the Dreamworks films, but the animation is decent and the story, albeit reminiscent at times of Ferngully, has enough to be worth a watch, especially if you have kids.

Pretty to look at, but utterly forgettable. The whole thing feels way too similar to several other, better animated films, including, most obviously, "Fern Gully." Also, the stunt voice casting is very distracting. Particularly, Steve Tyler (lead singer from Aerosmith) and his completely left-field musical number almost made me shut the movie off.

Will kids like it? Maybe. But there's so much better stuff out there. Don't waste your time on this or your kids'.

Avatar meets Fern Gully......My wife and I thought it was good. There were parts that could cause some heebie jeebies for little kids. There were moments with great humor, though some of the humor came at the expense of another character (making fun, belittling, name-calling, etc.). It's your decision in letting your children be exposed to that kind of "humor".

I was pleasantly surprised by this. The animation is superb. The story is reminiscent of the 90s film Fern gulley. A human gets shrunk to fairy size and the forest has to be saved from destruction. The big difference (and it is a good one) is that the bad guys are small creatures like the good ones. In fact the tiny creatures make fun of the slow stupid humans, paying them little heed. Along with the overarching plot of saving the forest, is the developing relationship of a father and daughter, along with other secondary plots that make viewing this film a very rich experience. Great family entertainment. Downsides to this film would have to be its title. The word 'epic' was overused so much in the otts that naming a film this is like beating a dead horse. Instant eye-rolling ensues when you hear the title of this film for the first time. This is hardly a deterrent from watching this. Definitely worth your time

Judging by the reaction of my younger kids who are in the target audience, Epic is a success. They enjoyed the colorful animals and plants and characters. Epic doesn’t have the inside jokes that make these kinds of films more enjoyable for adults, and the simplistic plot doesn’t thrill. Still, some of the visuals are worth the time to watch, and Epic is a fun adventure that the family can enjoy together... See Full Review

Thumbs up because the alternatives such as Turbo and Planes make it stick way out. Story is more complex than the standard mentally deficient kid stuff.

Epic is a surprisingly enjoyable movie! The animation of the forest and flowers is beautiful, and while the concept feels familiar (small people and bugs in a big environment), the characters made this one fun. The snail and slug duo is especially funny. Epic doesn't have any inappropriate humor or language, though it might not be the most interesting to young children. Also, in the credits you can see a sticker of Salt Lake City with the temple in the skyline.

I didn't have little ones with me, but the ones that were there laughed quite a few times. There's some lines in it that are pretty funny. When it started I wasn't sure I'd like it, but it got cuter and funnier as new characters were introduced. I think it's worth your time.
