Wow! What an awesome movie. I never saw this in theater but picked up last night at Redbox. It was such a good show. There are zero slow points and it just keeps you in suspense the whole time! Tom Hanks did an incredible job! I would recommend this show to any teen-adult. Not a child's movie. There is violence with guns and some swearing. This is one of the best movies I have seen in a while and I will probably buy this one.

I really enjoyed this movie! I went into this expecting a good performance from Tom Hanks and not really knowing what else to expect.

This was both a very emotional and suspenseful movie! I left this movie almost emotionally drained and in a little bit of shock with how well Tom Hanks was able to become Captain Phillips. Tom Hanks wasn't the only person in this movie who did a good acting job though. I felt like there were multiple characters that were easy to relate to and I was able to get emotionally invested in their roles. The violence in the movie was mellow by today's PG-13 movies standards, which I appreciated. There was some blood and violence with guns, but there isn't a lot of blood and gore shown.

I would highly recommend people seeing this! It was an excellent movie and it is definitely worth your time.

The film was well-made, well-paced, and well-acted, but I still have a bone to pick with it. One thing that makers of movies based of current events should vigilantly strive to maintain is credibility. The movie is better when you believe it. You want to believe that what you are seeing on screen is not far off from what it would be like to actually witness the event. The filmmakers' task is to walk the delicate tightrope of making us believe their version of the story while giving it cinematic flare. (If you want to see a movie that does this perfectly, watch "The Saratov Approach" by Garrett Batty.)

For the most part, "Captain Phillips" does this pretty well, but there are some ways in which it sacrifices believability for the sake of drama. SPOILER ALERT: The most egregious example comes at the climax of the film when all 3 targets happen to go green for the Navy Seals at the exact same time the pirates decide to execute Captain Phillips. Even in fictional stories we all roll our eyes when the time bomb is disarmed when the timer is at :01 seconds.

Another problem with this portrayal of Captain Phillips's story is that you get the sense that you are being sold an idealized version of him. I mean, why was this guy sailing through pirate infested waters so close to the Somali coast? Why was he so eager to sacrifice himself for his brand new crew? These questions led me to a quick search on the internet which put a lot of what he did in the film further into question.

If there is one thing you can learn from this movie, it's that if there is one thing in this world that you don't want after you, it's a Navy Seal. Those guys are like the death eaters of the muggle world.

Just watched it from Redbox DVD. Very engaging and intense. Tom Hanks is especially convincing in the shock the captain experienced in the aftermath of the hijacking. I wouldn't show it to children under 13. Though not as graphic as in some movies, there is significant violence made perhaps more real knowing it's based on actual events.

Captain Phillips is a well put together film. Tom Hanks does another splendid job as the captain that is abducted by pirates to free his crew. I was captivated the entire time. Very well done.

Parent's note: there is a lot of gun fire and several people are hit. You see some blood in several instances. There is also some profanity. Keep this one to the older teenage audience.

This is the best movie I’ve seen in quite some time despite the fact that I knew how it was going to end. We hear about pirate attacks on the news, and this film gives a unique view into terror on the high seas. Tom Hanks nails his role as Captain Phillips, and with Paul Greengrass at the controls, you are in good hands. Captain Phillips is tense, thought provoking, and well worth your time... Loved it. In the last month I've watched this and Gravity. Gravity was as boring as all get out. This was the best movie in years. I'd take my 11 year old to this one. Wished I had. Didn't just because I was worried about it.

Great movie. I think this is one of Tom Hanks best movies. I didn't really know the whole story about what happened to Captain Phillips and his cargo ship, all I knew as everyone else does, is he made it. But I still found myself on the edge of my seat. The best part of the movie is the last five minutes. It is very powerful and it turned a good movie into a great movie.
There is some very intense scenes as well as some violence and language that would definitely make it deserving of the PG-13 rating.

Complete distortion of reality. In reality Captain Phillips put his own ship at risk by being way too close to shore. He was in no way a hero and this movie should be skipped.

Put together a favorite actor with a favorite director, and chances are good that great things will happen.

I think most of us love Tom Hanks, and I came to appreciate the work of Paul Greengrass after I had to compose myself for several minutes after witnessing “United 93,” his powerful re-creation of the events of Sept. 11 on the flight that passengers forced down in a Pennsylvania field.

Both men can tell a story, and ”Captain Phillips” is truly exceptional... See Full Review

After a shaky start, Greengrass and his talented cast make this into more than a story of courage and resilience. While he clearly has a point of view and never pretends that the pirates are justified, he allows us to understand their desperate circumstances.

Captain Phillips is both interesting and a little upsetting. Thankfully the violence is not too gratuitous, but there is violence and blood nonetheless. And there are a couple of instances of language. Overall it is a well made film about the sad conflict that occurs off of the east coast of Africa.
